Return of Cephus of Justinian Dec 01 2012 Anonymous
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The return of a knight from captivity is usually an insignificant event.
The recent return of Cephus of Justinian however has had some traction due to the nature of the knight's storied history. Believed to have fallen during the fall of Remle after
having saved his Lord from a killing blow and fending off four Kurgans to get him to safety; it seems the former knight captain and master of arms spent the last eight years in
captivity. Recently escaped he has returned to Akko emaciated and haggard from the long years of his imprisonment.
The early fifties knight was once a noteworthy competitor in tournaments having been a tournament champion more than once in both mounted and melee events. Cephus was a
native who surprisingly to many took up the banner of Hugh of Justinian and served as his first and oldest knight. His name is also notable to many natives as he trained and
worked with many noteworthy knights, heirs, and nobility whom have benefited from his tutelage. He was known to be exceptionally loyal, steadfast, compassionate, courageous,
 and personable.

Executions At The Sepulchre Dec 01 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has been two weeks since the Kurgan raid on Meekham that broke through the gates of the town and Claudius' Tomb alike and took the life of Baroness Lysandra's young son. Repairs have proceeded apace, of course, as have investigations. Those in the city may have wondered why the pom-pom laser wasn't more active in the defense of the town. It seems the Baroness has an answer.

As dawn broke over Meekham, the rising sun found four new figureheads on the walls, one at each of the cardinal directions. Each of the men was tied to a post, his eyes stitched open and his entrails hanging from an open gut wound. None were quite dead yet. The proclamation that followed offered some explanation:

"Thus shall be the punishment for treason. These men betrayed Meekham and the Tomb to the Kurgans, seeking their own advancement. Not only did they damage our defense system, but they killed their own brothers in arms and provided intelligence to the enemy, leading to the capture and death of my son and heir, an innocent child, and allowing the Kurgans into the sanctuary of Claudius' Tomb. Perhaps the Saints will forgive them in the hereafter; they will find no succor here. Let them stand watch for what remains of their lives, in penance for their sins.

Lysandra Decados
Baroness Claudius' Tomb"

Rumors in the aftermath of the proclamation say that the Baroness and her loyal men, along with a small contingent of Brother Battle from the Priory of St. Claude, moved like the wind through the keep in the small hours of the morning, taking the traitors while they slept. The cries of the traitors could be heard for hours as the sun climbed higher in the sky.

Seaside party drowning? Dec 02 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sea the sea a hymn to thee where lost sailors lie and darkness deep a grain of sand along the coast, swim strong and hard swimmer that dare her coast but not to boast oh not to boast two nobles almost lost the ghost.
It would seem that word floating on the sea wind is that a contest of nobles during the sea side party nearly ended in both drowning when the sea turned angry. Rumor has it that the Baroness Josselin and the Vice-Count Lyov placed a wager of skill and nearly both lost, they of course were quickly attended by their retinue as they arrived upon shore and were reported to be in good health.

Another knight has returned to Akko injured after trying the road north, Don Sans Sebastian Jose Reyes Victor de Aragon rode north with his retinue only to return hours later covered in blood, clinging to his saddle, and apparently exuberant over his fight though also in dire need of Amalthean attention having apparently wounded Don Rosario slightly but suffered far worse in return.

The Road Knight stirkes again Dec 02 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blades clashed for a pair of angelic noble ladies this afternoon rumor has it, Baroness Seraphine and Lady Anja had front row seats to a most epic duel. The handsome and skilled Lord Anselm accepted the road duelist Knight Don Rosario Carlito Alvaro Alejo Rolas y Justus de Benignamin challenge. The two honorable men fought without the aid of shields testing blade against blade and skill for skill. The cost for Lord Anselm was dear however tough both men fought for to test their skills Anselm's life was nearly taken by a strike that was beautifully devastating.
The cost to bring him back was supposedly steep but fair but little has surfaced.

Don Rosario has ridden back into Akko, badly wounded and with his sword arm in a sling, followed by his servant and squire. There is no longer an encampment upon the Skyway or challenges menacing passing nobles, with travelers who watched reporting that an unknown armoured knight without heraldry challenged then handily defeated the Hazat without ever giving his name or suffering a single blow in return.

Camp Beth rises from the ashes Dec 02 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It hasn't been terribly long since the burning of Camp Beth, and the more recent witch trial of slavers taken from the camp, but it seems that the Muster has moved back into Camp Beth. Chainers seem to have resumed their old business of slaving without having really missed a step from the church attack, however things are not entirely as they were before, and a security element of hoplites from the Blacksun Raiders has taken upon itself security for the camp in absence of any other contracts. It's said they're barring anyone entry into Camp Beth without membership in the Muster, or authorization from the Chainers running the market.

It is being said amongst the Crusaders that the retainer of a Crusader Knight was castrated a few days ago by a Li Halan Sword of Lextius when he was caught attemting to rape a native peasant woman in the Cathedral Quarter. Most people agree that it was Sir Feng Li Halan that meted out this punishment. Some of the Crusader Knights are indignant at the swift and summary judgement, while some are strangely proud that they can police their own so...effectively.

Noble Woman Opens a Can of... Dec 03 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Down a side road just away from the Spice Market there was an incident. A woman was being accosted according to word of mouth around the pubs and locals there. The incident was getting rough when a goon jacked the popular peasant merchant over the jaw with a cudgel.

A Baroness or Countess or someting or another apparently intervened with a fierce brother battle to the two men accosting the merchant. The brother battle busted a cap in the armed assailant goon that hit the woman. And a guard of the Baroness was hurt a little. The goon with the cudgel after being shot was beaten to a bloody pulp by the noblewoman some say. Some also say it was a Baron and in fact not a Baroness. Others say it was the brother battle that was the woman but they were drunk when they said it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Muster operations in Camp Beth have begun to settle into more normal day to day operations, albeit subdued. Visitors are welcomed in, given they speak with the chainer who has taken charge of slaving, said to also be a mercenary Captain as well. The visitors are given a Muster escort, and armed parties are expressly forbidden, given the high threat of a careless visitor allowing weapons into the hands of a slave. Further indication as to the change in leadership style are highlighted as a rather public punishment occurred at mid-day, a Muster Slaver was given lashes in the Camp Aleph square before the Hiring Hall at midday by one of the Muster Taskmasters, his crime was stated as unsavory slaving practices, though details have not yet been forthcoming.

Activity in Farouk... Dec 05 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, the Tafia Barony of the north has seen an upswing in activity as the Kurgan Farouk Al-Farouk has played 'host' to more and more of Count Renaud's men. Cavalry and infantry mostly, though a few riverine patrol boats have beefed up the defenses there, in keeping with the contractual vassalage of that Tafia realm to Leon. The most interesting aspects to observers would be, in the first, the presence of the 1st Leon Uhlans Heavy Cavalry, an indication that if there is fighting, that Count Renaud intends to lead the charge. And in the second, the deployment of some of Renaud's finest scouts and analysts.

Leopards and Spots Dec 05 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the attack on Meekham, there has been some speculation about whether or not Baroness Lysandra would remain a baroness for long, and how she might retain that position. In the wake of the executions, it seems there has been action on that front. Gossips in the Middle Terrace say the baroness had visitors last night, including two giant Kossacks. But she emerged alive and uninjured the next morning!

Furthermore, though she's rarely been seen out of anything but Decados (black, tight) fashion in the past few years, she was seen shopping in the Lower Esplanade. When the delivery arrived at Sepulchre House? There were colors! Some ruffles! Light and flowing fabrics suited for the desert!

There are two nails in the coffin, though. First, the Mantis no longer flies over Meekham, replaced by the Justinian fist. Second, the wee hours of the morning saw an infusion of men in the lordship of Lord Sergei Nabokov, the former Kossack whose town served as the diversion for the attack on Meekham. In the aftermath of the reorganization, Lord Sergei was discovered to be missing. When asked about his whereabouts, it's said the baroness claims to have sent him back to Severus.

No one saw him board a craft, though.

Baronetcy Musical Chairs Dec 05 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Word is leaking out from Auberry that several baronetcies along the Lesser Fork are slated to be swapped out with vacancies in the interior to form a fairly large, contiguous vacancy along Auberry's northern frontier near the border between Arsuf and Sidon and yet another contiguous vacancy near Falconet (al-Fasir).

The official word from the Vice-Count's office is standard reorganization of the County's vacant manors along the border in preparation for war. Indeed, similar reorganizations occurred prior to the Flavian Crusade under Count Feodor Kurakin Decados.

Rumors amongst courtiers are rampant. It is no small secret that Baron Alam of Arsuf fled to the protection of the Vice-Count's Court and there are rumors that both Baron Arsuf and a yet unknown Decados lord will be assigned to those territories. Some suggest that it has long been the Vice-Count's intention to reorganize Auberry's vast patchwork of competing claims and balkanized baronetcies to cognizable vassal territories. Still some insist yet that the Vice-Count is reorganizing favored baronets to safer manors in a show of largesse, and throwing disfavored ones into the front lines of war.

Others quietly whisper that buffer zones are being created in case the impending Kurgan invasion from the north breach preliminary defense lines north of the Lesser Fork, the Vice-Count rather infamous both in the Emperor Wars and the Flavian Crusade as a man with no qualms about brutal scorched earth campaigns.

The Counts of Auberry and Leon are - along with the Li Halan general Caelwyn Xiu-Feng - said to have traveled to Farouk, the Kurgan-held taifa barony north along the River of Joy. There, observers whisper that they met some infidel prince; most rumors suggest that it was the Khan of Kerak, though there are a few who suggest instead that it was a direct representative of the Khedive himself in Iskandretta. What this means for the war brewing north of the Lesser Fork, none can say, though it is surely not a coincidence.

After his flitter touched down at the Lion Tower, couriers went out from Count Renaud Germain DeMoley, initiating a full call up of Leon's levies, banners and vassals. It is not an emergency summons, and there does not appear to be an indication that they will be rushed into conflict, so many speculate that the Count's move is to give them time for his traditional cross-training and coordination exercises. Leon's troops have always enjoyed a certain level of smooth cooperation, and this is one of the reasons why.

Otherwise, the group proceeded on in good health, although their fliers are said to have arrived a little later than scheduled, perhaps by some alternate route.

The succession of the Barony has passed to his son: Hassan ibn Abd Al-Haww ibn Al-Malik, Baron of Helborg, Lord of the Mountains.

Little is known about Hassan outside of local lore. He is said to be young, handsome, and inexperienced. He is also rumored to be infatuated with tech. His only experience is leading an artillery unit. He is unproven in the field and as a Baron. But he enjoys a cult like love of infallibility from his people...

The Castellan and the Exodites Dec 08 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hugh of Justinian has been seen often of late in the Exodite quarter, speaking with local notables and officials - most notably the Guild of St Maya. The Justinians are generally not well liked by the Exodites; on the other hand, Hugh the Bastard was the first man on the ramparts when Revelation was briefly taken in '86, and known as a staunch champion of the Crusade on the Oultrejoyeaux, having fought for Revelation for over two decades. Then again, his presence in the Quarter is perhaps not so surprising, given that as Castellan of the North the Quarter is within his Bailiwick.

Meanwhile, there are rumours that he has been speaking of a new push in the Oultrejoyeaux to his cousins the Justinians, of long meetings with Count Walker. Despite his Justinian blood, the lifelong crusader is perhaps still a more likely champion for the Exodite cause than most.

An Imperial Recovery Dec 08 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last seen bearing severe burns to his face and arms after rescuing a repentant Chainer from the pyre, Imperial Captain Sir Edward Graves, Second Baronet, appears to have made a miraculous recovery. He has only been seen out and about in Akko once or twice since the events of two weeks ago but appears to bear no scars or wounds; some of his soldiers attribute this to the Pancreator's direct intervention at their officer commanding's wounds. Still other, more senior commandos of C Company, Duke of Connaught's Highland Light Infantry are more realistic, crediting the swift healing of Sister Naima bint Alima of the Sanctuary Aeon.

However, while he bears no scars, he also lacks hair on his head. This hasn't stopped him from leading his men during the last two weeks of training exercises near the Monash Barracks, north of Akko. Time will tell when men of C Coy DCHLI will move out and where, though they've been seen preparing supplies.

The Zilah Pearl is shattered! Dec 08 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rumors in military circles swirl. A kurgan-marked flitter took off from an airfield outside of the city, carrying Count Renaud of Leon, Lord Antonio of Joyeux, Baroness Desidera of Port Leon, Sir Cephus and a scraggly sort of freelancer no one knew. And then there was news of a dogfight over Joppha and Gilhad as a small craft slipped through the defenses of Quattabad, despite the best efforts of a pair of Ra'd fighter-craft.

Later in the day though, comes word that the Pearl of Zilah, a 2nd republic era maglev train from the Pearl City of Zilah, had been destroyed while on the route from Iskandretta to Revelation. It seems the Bridge of Saints, about midpoint between the two cities, suffered a failure of the Pillar of Paulus, rather suddenly.. and the train could not slow down.

Word is that the train was carrying ammunition and technical supplies bound for the Revelation Tank Corps. The flitter returned later in the day, having swung out over the water, and back up along the coast past Johburg, seemingly none the worse for wear.

Arrows Dim, Loudspeakers On Dec 08 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the tense meeting at the Palais Maleband, it is reported that the Vice-Count Auberry left for Auberry with his entire retinue, leaving behind only a skeleton crew of house maintenance and the lights, in contrast to the Lion Tower, dim if not dark. Not even the House Steward for Palais Maleband stayed behind. It is a rather unusual instance that no one authorized to give even an official statement remained available at the Palais. Questions were in the air about whether or not the Vice-Count will still be Vice-Count when morning breaks, much less whether or not the Vice-Count would make it on time to the Curia.

Word, however, arrives from Auberry that the loudspeakers at the markets and public squares are on again, reporting production quotas, convictions, and the like. Rumor has it, however, that it is no longer Vice-Count Lyov's people behind the 'news' but ominously the return of Count Feodor's people. Father and son never did get along.

This all could just be romantic moodlighting with that Muster fellow.

You know... I was just at the Lion Tower... and... has anyone noticed that it's Count Renaud... and a whole lot of chicks? I hear he had an active hand in choosing some of his barons, settling disputes in land and papers... do you think the Count has set up his own harem? I'm not sure I believe all that, but if I did... I'm not sure if I should applaud him or call the inquisition!

Baron Hassan ibn Abd Al-Haww ibn Al-Malik of Helborg led a procession through the County of Johburg until he reached the capital. The procession consisted of the Baron's elite guard and two large coastal batteries. The guns were pledged to the Countess in thanks for the years of her heroism and protection to the Barony of Helborg.

Upon the reconstructed bridge amidst the blare of trumpets the new Baron swore his oath to the Castellan and Countess of Johburg. The oath was received and then returned by the Countess as she officially recognized his succession.

Going WHERE???!! Dec 09 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hugh of Justinian, returning from dealing with some scuffles in the Exodite Courter, met the emissaries of the Curia on the street outside his compound. He was, reportedly, all smiles upon being told of his appointment, full of vim and vigor to show Johnny Kurgan whatfor.

Until he was told where exactly he was going.

"REVELATION???!!" And "I'm going WHERE?" were heard echoing down the street. From there, it went downhill, as only the crass Bastard can provide, with words unsuitably for the ears of ladies. By all accounts, the Captain-General drunk himself into a stupor and passed out a few hours later.

That night, it is rumored that with the Vice-Count and the Baroness played cards/went hunting/engaged in kinky Decados sex. Or something.

The Red Corsair Strikes! Dec 10 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Khalid Ashram Khalid, feared corsair sailing under crimson flag from Tyche, was said to have struck a supply convoy coming from Hydessos and headed for Johburg. His ship, the feared Armored Frigate 'Halal A'rrai', strikes fear into the hearts of sailors in the Great Sea beyond the Shining Gulf, when its sails come down and black smoke goes up from its boilers. Very little can outrun her, and lesser still can fend her off.

Her fourth prize this season, the Star of FallingFire, a cargo ship full of small caliber ammunition headed for Lord Caelwyn Ichiro Xui-Feng Li Halan's forces was captured, and while her crew was ransomed, the ship itself was taken to Tyche as a prize.

The tensions in the City of Akko have risen to new levels of intensity following the latest meeting of the Curia, and the feelings of resentment and religious fervour are beginning to spill to the nearby townships even outside the refugee camps. Small-scale demonstrations of anti-Kurgan resentment have now been joined with larger street protests displaying near-violent outpourings of anger towards the lack of action on the part of the nobility against the foe, with street preachers and church pulpits alike claiming the Mammon-gripped Curia have lost the will to fight for anything but their own lands, offer no leadership, and only send desultory aid to Revelation.

The Brightest Star taken as Prize! Dec 12 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Brightest Star, a Brig out of Teldam, was reported lost as a prize approximately 300 nautical miles south by south west of Teldam.

The small ship, with her crew of twenty sailors and four officers, was run down by the Red Corsair after a short chase in which the Corsair's ship 'Hilal A'rrai' engaged her engines to close the distance.

The officers of the Brightest Star, including Sir Jorgen Van Gelder, were put to the long boat rather than ransomed as part of a peaceful surrender of the ship. The rest of her crew was enslaved as prize by the Corsair.

It took Captain Van Gelder 10 days to return to Teldem by long boat, and the prize was listed in Tyche's Prize Hall in 8, causing some stir in nautical circles. The Red Corsair's daring has become more pronounced recently, as he ventures deeper into what had previously been 'safe' shipping lanes.

Riot in Foregate Dec 12 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An unflattering political cartoon has appeared in the city on roughly printed handbills and scraps. It depicts Baron Remle holding an oversized compass in his hand with the jumpcross-shaped needle firmly held towards the north by the finger of Vice-Count Lyov. The Baron is unable to see the manipulation as his lips are firmly pressed to a thumb-twiddling Count Walker's buttocks.

The ill-scrawled caption reads "Whotch Way to Revalaton??"

There was a small riot in the Foregate between newly minted crusader-sworn crying out for the Captain-General, and an angry mob of unimpressed citizenry and exodites still tired of platitudes from the 'establishment', though the martial character of those supporting the Baron meant they held the upper hand. Fortunately once the dust settled, only one structure had been set ablaze, and a bucket crew managed to extinguish the fire before it spread further.

The Gilt Dagger is missing! Dec 15 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heavy fog blanketed the Shining Gulf this evening when the 'Gilt Dagger' put to sea. The Comital Yacht of the Van Gelder of Johburg, the Gilt Dagger is what one might call a floating palace. Yacht might seem to indicate 'small', but really, it is equal in size to any ship of the line.

It was Viscoutnessa Nathalie Van Gelder, daughter to the Chancellor Amber Van Gelder, who ordered her put to sea, against the better council of the Port Lord of Johburg. Heavy fog and recent raider activity, they made it more risky than he would like, what with the Johburg fleet spread thin looking for the Red Corsair.

But youth is invulnerable, especially when that youth has a group of friends from across the baronies, young nobles and high merchant brats all looking for a good time. And so... the Gilt Dagger put to sea.

But now... the ship is several hours overdue to return. The Yacht was last seen sailing south by south east, her radio beacon transmitting back to Johburg harbor.

At 2:10 AM, the Helborg Star, a tramp freighter headed for Teldam saw lights on the horizon that were reported to be the Dagger, but it also reported a second contact, unidentified, that seemed to be shadowing the vessel. Radioed warnings were not responded to.

(Questions or comments or involvement to Renaud)

Shouts in the Square Dec 15 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just after midday Mass at the Cathedral in Exodus Square, two large groups of people descended into arguing and shouting. The Northern contingent shouted that they were being abandoned, that the Curia would see their lands burned and lost to the Kurgans. The Exodites, enraged by the slow pace of movement towards Revelation, responded with anger and accusations of their own.

The crowd soon focused their rage upon the White Lady of the Phoenix Guard, accusing her of witchery and corruption; and also surrounded an Amalthean upon the steps of the cathedral, naming her whore and Kurgan traitor. Violence seemed imminent, but then the White Lady fired shots (or shot lasers from those unnatural eyes, depending on the storyteller) and the crowd dispersed in a panic, leaving another noblewoman injured. The Castellan gathered up both noblewoman and Amalthean and shepherded them out of the Square on horseback--the White Lady left on foot, with the unwashed fleeing before her. Though the crowd dispersed, the grumbling remains, especially in the rougher quarters and winesinks.

War Council... Dec 16 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As might have been predicted, war council was a chaotic affair. Between the Northern Lords all-but declaring their unwillingness to send troops or support to take Revelation and Lord Antonio's all-but declarations that it would be he who leads, plans and executes any attacks in the Pale or Ostrejoyeux rather than the Crusader State or it's chosen Constable, and Sir Williams's arrival and disruption of the meeting, pulling Hugh aside like an errant child...

Very little got done. But perhaps this was Hugh's Genius, in letting the north whine for half the meeting, Antonio bluster for a third and the remainder be used by William to display his motives all the clearer.

Maybe Hugh has set the stage for some actual work to get done.

There is surely great rumbling over the fact that one of the richest and most populous counts seems content to let others do his fighting for him.

Maybe the whippings of his prior Kurgan jailers made him timid?

The recent march to war has ignited old complaints between the ancient merchants of Akko and the Exodites - complaints that the Exodites are funding expeditions to Revelation that will cause others to bleed for a cause the Exodites are not willing to risk themselves for. They say that in general, this is all an engineered effort at war profiteering - that the Exodite leaders have cut deals with Lord Hugh, Sir William and others to use only Exodite-approved merchants to supply the upcoming armies. Certainly, Lord Hugh and the new Chancellor have both shown great interest in Exodite affairs, and indeed there are some suggestions that the Exodites may have thrown some financial support behind Amber's closely-contested election. The final vote was made by an Imperial captain, and one pernicious rumor is that he has been paid off with Exodite coin.

His has been a long battle with a variety of illnesses - and some say that his long sickness and the lack of his moderating influence on the Church on Yathrib has led to some of the current excesses among the Crusaders. Now, though, it is time for the chapter of the monastery to choose a successor. There is some movement among the native clergy to choose someone from Yathrib, but the word in ecclesiastic circles is that there is a great deal of pressure for the chapter to name an Orthodox priest from offworld.

The Peerless Talon, the steam and sail gun-barque captained by the bold privateer Sir Zakaria al Malik, returned to Akko today after a successful hunt, capturing over a thousand firebirds in spices and valuables from a Kurgan merchantman in the Shining Gulf before escaping Kurgan pirate hunters to make it back to port unscathed. Rather than swaggering off to blow their prize money in the various fine establishments of Corsair's Alley, though, the crew of the Talon bunkered more coal and loaded ammunition as her Captain, dressed for once in his formal uniform, went to some destination within Akko for a meeting.

For centuries, a tall watchtower has stood between Sidon and Arsuf, built originally by the Knights of the Axe and Fist as a guardian against the Prince-Bishop of the Crossing. Early this morning, the ground trembled terribly and it fell, crushing to death three men of the small detachment of Sidon armsmen stationed there.

The Johburg Fleet to Sea. Dec 18 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it has a hull and sail, it has been put to the water in Johburg. A sudden, stark mobilization of the fleet has been made, a dragnet being thrown far and wide to find and report the location of the Red Corsair, Khalid Ashram Khalid. Assisting in this search are aircraft from Claudius' Tomb as well as many of the ships and aircraft of the Cote-Leon, specifically Leon itself and Port-Leon.

Spanning a gap between what are sometimes rivals, it seems the Brother Battle and Swords of Lextius of Akko have come to some sort of agreement. The Swords of Lextius have been seen taking shifts subordinated to the Brother Battle in their policing duties, as a form of back-up, providing numbers that the elite Brother Battle need. The Swords, especially the youngest and least experienced knights, have also been seen drilling with the Brother Battle Auxiliaries, learning what they can of warfare and discipline. Some say that this deal was made by Brother Zebediah and Sir William, or one of his deputies.

Duel at Strandhaus Station Dec 19 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

South of Teldam, sailors make free with the story of ships maneuvering in tight, confined spaces with amazing skill, incredible rifle shots in the night at moving targets, and a moonlight duel atop the ancient Strandhaus Lighthouse. Set amid the spires of the the rocky Strandhaus Shallows, a ships graveyard stretching back 2000 years, one has to ask, what is the truth, and what is the rumor? One would have to approach sir Zakaria al-Malik or Baroness Desideria Rolas.. for only they have the full story.

Word filters out from Port Leon that their Baroness is back from a trip to Johburg. In the company of the Countess Johburg's brother Baron Valentijn din Alt Van Gelder, and Captain Sir Zakaria al Malik, she sailed south and returned with the missing Viscontessa. Rumor also says that Captain Zakaria is strutting around rather proudly these days, but Lady Desideria has been looking oddly at the dagger she's carrying around now which seems to have the emblem of the former Royal House of Gesar on it.

Home from the Sea Dec 19 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Peerless Talon, flying the White Hawk standard of Sir Zakaria Haidar al-Malik alongside the Sunwheel of his house, sailed back into Akko harbor several days after a speedy departure under steam power for southern points unknown. She was riding significantly higher in the water on her return, bunkers empty, nearly all the coal burned in haste to make every knot of speed. While the Captain and several noble personages, including a young woman wearing the dagger of House van Gelder, immediately made their way by coach to Fisher Hall, sailors in the Corsair's Alley bars couldn't help but talk about the happenings on the voyage. A nearly insane run through rocks and shoals in the dark, guided by nothing more than the moon and the Pancreator's grace, a shot from Baroness Desideria Rolas of Port-Leon's rifle that covered half a mile to strike a Kurgan in an open boat, and finally a climactic duel for the Viscontessa van Gelder's honor between the White Hawk and the Red Corsair atop an abandoned lighthouse. Sailors speak of the fantastic prize money they expect to garner out of rewards, salvage, and Kurgan ransom, and drink heartily to the Captain, the Baroness, and Baron Valentijn din Alt van Gelder, who was also on the mission.

What did not sail into port, however, was either the Gilded Dagger or the Kurgan pirate vessel Halal A'rrai. While Sir Zakaria seems to have defeated Khalid Ashram Khalid al-Gesar, the Kurgan corsair has either escaped the al Malik, or otherwise lived to fight another day.

Beware The Gifts of Kurgans Dec 19 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps there is some truth to the rumor of Sir Zakaria's victory over the Red Corsair. Perhaps there is some truth after all - this is what sailors on the dock whisper. They think this, looking upon the lines of the Star of FallingFire, a small cargo ship that was bound for Teldam some weeks back, but was waylayed by the Red Corsaid, Khalid Ashram Khalid al-Gesar.

The ship came into Johburg's port with skeleton crew, most of her people sold off as slaves already. She rode higher in the water, a good deal of her cargo already offloaded - but there is enough ammunition in the hold for a decent ransom, and then the value of the ship itself.

The real question, people wonder... is how will Lord Caelwyn Ichiro Xui-Feng Li Halan himself regard this dubious honor? Will he claim it back for himself, or will Zakaria make some accommodation to the powerful crusader lord?

While the baroness was involved in at least half a dozen of them - win and lose - it was apparently an effort at recruiting unattached young nobles to join her forces before the campaign season is in full swing.

Rumor has it there were drinks (paid for by the Baroness), betting, and a good time was had by all. Of course, rumor also has it that Lysandra quit the field when a ceramsteel-clad young Hawkwood sought a bout, claiming exhaustion and training exercises scheduled for the next morning.

Along with this, these are other, perhaps more disturbing rumours. Apparently the Captain-General's compound in Western Akko has seen extensive home repairs in the form of razor wire and sandbags. The Baron's household has also apparently stockpiled supplies and water inside the compound.

A new Knightly Order? Dec 21 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems that Sir Cephus of Justinian is starting preliminary recruiting efforts for a new Order of Knights. He is looking to rally knights to the Exodite and Refugee cause. Word has it the famed former tournament champion is going to many hedge knights, landless knights, and squires on the verge of knighthood. He is also seeking squires, and noble youth who have lost their prominence as a result of the Betrayal.

It is said he is looking for character and has promised to oversee the training of the youth. He is also working in the camps seeking lay brothers with good hearts and firm resolve. He is trying to fill the ranks of non-nobility with those he aims to protect.

There is no word if this is a fraternal order or an official one. But Sir Cephus of Justinian has made it know he is looking for sponsorship and support. So likely he aims to bring this about in an official recognized manner in due time.

Political Cartoon III Dec 28 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The latest political cartoon to make its way around the Foregate and the higher and lower reaches of Akko and beyond, has made its appearance scrawled in chalk in public jakes, on broken walls, and raggedly printed onto parchment. Some say a branch of the proscribed Mercurian Guild has set itself up in Akko, ready to spread its truth and lies into willing and unwilling ears, intending to make such cartoons a regular occurrence.

This offering depicts the flamboyant Baron Hassan of Helborg in his flowing robes, his hands cupped at his crotch supporting the massive barrel of an old-style black powder cannon which protrudes from his groin. Above his head, the speech bubble reads 'Redy to fire!!'
In the foreground, a caricature of Countess Amber with a mock-scandalised expression hides her eyes while peeking through her fingers, her tongue licking her lips lasciviously. Other Curial figures are looking on, and a stylised lion is scampering away with its tail between its legs out of the edge of the picture. The caption reads 'Expensiv Compnsatin'.

A Duel in the Market Dec 28 2012 Anonymous
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Was it over a woman?" The Fishmonger was taking a break, smoking his poorly wrapped cigar in the shade of the Jeweler's storefront.

"No, it was just because they could," the Jeweler, a large, round Exodite, replied. He tried not to let the smell of the cigar get to him as he busied himself about his work, arguing internally that it masked the smell of fish.

"It must have been over something!" The Fishmonger was incredulous. "Hazim said they fought like devils!"

"It was masterful, truly," the Jeweler acknowledged, selecting a silver ring for the etching he had planned.

"So there was honor involved? Surely it must have been about honor?" The Fishmonger puffed heavily on his cigar before adding with certainty. "Yes, honor."

A long sigh came from the Jeweler as he set the ring down on his work table. "No, they just set about fighting, that is all. One minute they are arm in arm, the next that Sir Rosario- the mad one that kept fighting people on the road- is fighting the other one with the bug on his chest. Then they are back arm in arm and laughing like nothing happened."

"It could have been about honor, though. Noblemen are strange about that." The Fishmonger was loath to let go of his theory now that he had it firmly in his head.

"Zebulon's beard, man, it wasn't about honor! It wasn't about anything! They just started fighting in the middle of the Spice Market!" The Jewel, sensing that he wasn't going to get any relief from the pestering until he provided some kind of explanation, arose from his seat to loom over his work table. Holding out his hands to mime the two combatants he continued, "It was amazing. Both men were circling, testing each other. First the Mantis lord strikes, but that Sir Rosario, he's like a statue, and then he steps one way and his body moves another and the other one's blade misses. So Sir Rosario circles, and he strikes and strikes but this Decados is dancing this way and that, his blade slashing through the air and parrying and parrying. Then he's jumping up on apple carts and slashing away at Sir Rosario and everyone thinks 'oh, this is it!' because Sir Rosario is retreating and looks like he's lost it, and just like that bam!" The two hands are clapped together. "The Hazat knocks the Mantis right in the stomach and then it's all turned around. One scratch later and that's it. They are laughing and joking and I heard they went and got drunk together up at the Auberge. That's it. No apologies, no 'for honor', no nothing. They just fought, the Hazat lord won, and I lost a talon."

The Fishmonger listened carefully, nodding thoughtfully at this news. Finally, after much careful deliberation and several long pulls on his cigar, he stated "It was probably about honor."

A reeve representing Captain Sir Zakaria Haidar al-Malik was present to oversee the transfer of the ship back to Lord Caelwyn's men.

The Star of Fallingfire had been captured by the infamous Red Corsair, Khalid Ashram Khalid al-Gesar, and then paid by him as ransom after he was defeated by Sir Zakaria in a duel at the Strandhaus. While the details of any arrangement between the Crusaders and the privateer are unknown, Sir Zakaria was seen dining with Lord Caelwyn's seneschal, Dame Linnea Torenson, prior to the ship's return, and some agreement was obviously reached.

“Did you hear that commotion out in the street last night?”

“No…after that. Didn’t you see the blood on the street this morning?”

“Sorry friend, I was passed out long before then!”

“A group of drunks grabbed one of the Sisters from the Mission. Within sight of it even! She put up a fight, little thing, but one of them got a good hit on her before she pulled away—and then out of nowhere this young Brother Battle was there, just about the age of your Ned, and *shot* the one that laid hands on her and the others ran for their lives.”

“No! They laid hands on an Amalthean?”

“The Brothers are right scary, but I’m glad they’ve been more around. Anyway, this young one took the Sister to safety, and hauled away the man he shot. Don’t know that I’d like to be *him* right now, wonder what the Brothers will do to someone who laid hands on a sister of the cloth? What’s this world coming to, I asked old Tom, when we saw it happen!”

“You saw it happen? You didn’t try to help her?”

“Who me? Ain’t my business, friend. Besides, that group that surrounded her, they had swords! I didn’t want to get involved. Leave it to your betters, says I."
